Community Service C5D Shines Club Five Dock has donated over $60,000 to community organisations, charities and schools in surrounding areas. Community groups have benefited from the donations, ranging from a number of different affiliates, sporting clubs, school programs, community health centres and local charities. Club Vice President, Bill Dalton said "The club recognises the importance of charity and non-profit organisations and we will continue our dedication to support the people of the community who need it most." Committed to supporting young people in the area, Club Five Dock has assigned just under $8,000 to the ‘Friends of Five Dock Public School,' to enhance sporting facilities, as well as donating funds to Drummoyne Occasional Childcare Centre and Youth Unlimited. "We have always had a strong affiliation with charities that support the needy and we will carry on doing so," Mr. Dalton said. The club recognises the importance of charity and non-profit organisations Club Five Dock Donated $4380.00 to the Technical Aid For the Disabled. 
Club Five Dock also donated $9,000.00 to Mission Australia. The Centre for Autism and Related Disorders, Technical Aid to the Disabled, Mission Australia, Career Assist Schizophrenia Fellowship and the Ella Haberfield Group all benefited from donations with over half of all funds being donated to organisations supporting the disabled and elderly. "We are very grateful to Club Five Dock for its support in helping fund the bus," a representative of the Ella of Haberfield said. Club Five Dock will continue to support community organizations within the Local Government Area Supporting the Young & the Wild! Club Five Dock hosted its Annual Black Tie Dinner on Friday the 11th May raising over $14,000 for local community groups Inner West W.I.R.E.S and the 2nd Abbotsford Port Neptune Sea Scouts. The large function room at Club Five Dock was full of guests whom enjoyed wine, a delicious three course meal and fabulous entertainment by the John Pickworth Big Band and the fabulous Peter Byrne. Guests included representatives from the local organisations as well as tickets sold to Club members. Both organisations were delighted with the success of the event and the assistance it will bring to their organisations. Volunteer Daphne Turner was proud to accept the $4150 donation for Inner West W.I.R.E.S. ‘the money raised will be an important step in assisting with housing and resources for the local W.I.R.E.S branch. Rescued wildlife will experience this assistance as it will be utilised towards providing important food, medication, transportation and housing for birds in the area.' 
The Abbotsford Port Neptune Sea Scouts also enjoyed the success of the evening receiving $10,150 towards the building of a new hall and boatshed to be located on Abbotsford Point. 
Julian Day the representative for the evening said the Scouts were ‘over the moon with the generosity of Club Five Dock and the donation provided the opportunity for the group to get their renovation off the ground'. Club CEO, Ken Diaz and Club President, Harry McKinnon were extremely pleased with the outcomes of the night and the support provided by members, local businesses and suppliers. ‘Hosting an event like this involves a lot of helping hands, we could not of done it without the sponsorship of time, donations and attendance by these people', said Mr Diaz. |
